Chevrolet Service History, made simple

Work out early which kind of Chevrolet you have, because it decides everything after. A Matiz, Spark, Aveo, Cruze or Captiva was sold new here through franchised dealers and usually carried a stamped service book, so its record looks like any other mainstream car right up until the network closed.

An imported Camaro, Corvette, Silverado or Suburban is another matter. These were rarely dealer-serviced in Britain and went to American-car specialists instead, so the Chevrolet service history lives in invoices and workshop notes rather than a manufacturer portal.

When Chevrolet pulled its volume range out of Europe in 2015, dealers either shut or took on other franchises. Warranty and parts support was folded into other channels, but individual service records were not always moved across in a form an owner can query today.

So the practical route is usually the specific garage that stamped the book rather than a national helpline. We start from the dealer that supplied or last serviced the car and see what still exists.

Owners of imported Chevrolets tend to stick with a small circle of trusted American-car specialists for servicing, LS engine work and transmission rebuilds. These workshops keep careful invoices, partly because so much of the work is one-off.

Recovering a Chevrolet service history for an import therefore leans on finding those workshops and asking them to reprint job cards against the VIN or registration.

Many American Chevrolets on UK plates are left-hand-drive grey imports that came in with US title and service documentation. That paperwork rarely feeds into any UK system, so the pre-import history can be genuinely hard to verify.

Where those US records exist, we build on them, then add UK MOTs and specialist invoices to show what happened after the car landed.

For any Chevrolet that has been on UK roads long enough to need testing, the MOT record is a dependable reference. It confirms the mileage at each test and lists advisories that often line up with servicing work.

Checking MOT dates against invoices exposes gaps and gives a buyer or insurer confidence that the recovered record is consistent rather than cherry-picked.

Some Chevrolet records are simply gone, and we will say so, especially on cheap Daewoo-era cars that changed hands repeatedly or imports whose US history never came with them.
