BYD Service History, made simple

BYD has only been selling cars in the UK for a short time, and that shapes its service records more than anything else about the marque. The retail network was built from nothing and is still opening sites, so almost every BYD on the road has been maintained inside it and the histories are unusually complete by the standards of this trade. The exposure runs the other way round from an established brand. Where a fifteen year old Ford has drifted out of the network and left the manufacturer record behind, a BYD is far more likely to have everything recorded and to have lost the thread for a duller reason. A selling dealer taken on by a different group, say, or an early car registered before the network reached that part of the country.

The schedule asks for a visit every twelve months or 20,000 kilometres, which works out around 12,400 miles, whichever comes first. Because these are electric cars there is no oil service in the usual sense, and the work concentrates on the twelve volt battery, tyres, coolant, cabin filtration, brake fluid and software. Keeping to that schedule through a BYD dealer is not merely advisable, it is a condition attached to the battery cover, which is the single most valuable component on the car.

The warranty structure is generous and it is layered. The vehicle itself is covered for six years or 150,000 kilometres, around 93,750 miles, with the drive unit covered for eight years over the same distance. The Blade battery was extended in January 2026 to eight years or 250,000 kilometres, and unusually that increase was applied to existing BYD vehicles rather than to new sales alone, so an owner who bought before the change benefits from it. Cover of that length guarantees the car will be sold on at least once while still protected, and the buyer on the other side of that sale has a direct financial stake in knowing the network schedule was followed. On a marque this young, a missing record is nearly always retrievable, because the work was almost certainly done by a BYD dealer who still holds it.
